What is Black Friday and Does it Matter to Us?

We’ve been hearing about Black Friday a lot lately. As it can be understood from the fact that the concept of Black Friday is in English, it is a shopping trap that has no place in our culture.

It is a shopping event held on the first Friday after Thanksgiving, which is held on November 23 every year in the United States. It is also considered the start of the Christmas shopping season since 1932. Although it was a special day that only covered America at first, it spread to the whole world after Canada and England. Its popularity has also increased in our country this year.

Black Friday  means “Black Friday” in Turkish. This event could be dangerous as the discount rates could sometimes exceed 90 percent. Specially for Friday, stores in the USA open their doors at 05:00 and keep them open until later in the night. The phrase Black Friday came into our lives, but we could not see 90% discounts.

This day is known as “Black Friday” because of the injuries and incidents experienced in the face of the stampede of people resulting from large discounts. Things are not as they used to be, because online shopping sites have become widespread. Also, Black Friday discounts on the internet start much earlier.

Black Friday was implemented on November 24, 2017 in our country and in many parts of the world. However, we could not see discounts up to 90% in our country. Teachers’ Day, which is on different dates in each country, was November 24, 2017, the day of Balck Friday in our country. Unfortunately, Black Friday made more noise than teacher’s day. We had one more special day to make our discount. For us, it was a “Black Friday” in a spiritual sense.
