HijackThis is an application used to detect malware. While malware is sometimes hard to detect about its presence, most of the time you feel like something is wrong with your computer.. Maybe a missing file or unexplained network activity. You can check out the article on tips not going right from your computer here. HijackThis is a popular tool for detecting this type of malware.
What is HijackThis?
HijackThis (HJT) is a frequently used scan to find malware and adware installed on your computer is an intermediary. Its purpose is not to automatically remove malware. Helps you detect and repair. In 2007, it was sold to the security software company Trend Micro after accumulating 10 million downloads.
HJT has not changed its Trend Micro version substantially since the mid-2000s.
Most malware modifies your operating system by editing the registry, installing additional software, or changing the settings in your browser. HJT scans your computer, registry and other common software settings and lists what it finds to you.. HJT brings together all those disguised as common malware.
Antivirus software deletes or quarantines any malicious virus they find. It performs an action, but unlike antivirus software, HJT does not delete or quarantine what it finds, it just lists and does not perform any action by itself.. It is processed manually. Many of the HJT scans are critical to the proper functioning of your PC.. Don’t delete what you don’t know, removing them can be disastrous. So be careful while doing this.. If you don’t know, stay away.. It does more harm than good.
Don’t delete what you don’t know or not sure about with HijackThis.
HJT scans a number of areas where malware usually attacks. Results are divided into various categories so that you can easily complete the results with the scan area. In general, there are four categories; R, F, N, O.
R – Internet Explorer Search and Start pages
F – Automatically installed software.
N – Netscape Navigator and Mozilla Firefox Search and Start pages
O – Windows operating system components
F is an area where it can be difficult to diagnose as auto-install programs often try to disable your access to Windows tools like the Task Manager. Malware, and especially adware, tends to hide within the browser in the form of search engine redirects or homepage changes.. HJT results help you detect if something malicious is lurking in your browser. If you know the malware, you can select it from the list and delete it.
If you trust your knowledge of the registry and other Windows components, you may want to do an analysis and a fix on your own. HJT will guide you through your own analysis.
If you do not know the lists that HijackThis offers you, do not interfere in any way.. If you delete something wrong, it will do you more harm than good.
