At this year’s CES fair, Sony OLED (Organic) introduced the Light-Emitting Diode) technology. Although the screens that support this technology are as thin as 3mm, they can provide an incredible contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1. Sony showed off two OLED TV prototypes today at the Display 2007 Forum in Tokyo. One was the 27″ size 1920x1080p supported, the other 11″ size small model with 1024×600 (W-SVGA) support.

The lifetime of OLED screens will be 400,000 hours for 100cd/m2 lighting and 25,000 hours for 400cd/m2 illuminated screens.

Sony started work on OLED technology in the early 90s. It seems that Sony may be the company that makes the first OLED TV. Its closest rival, Toshiba OLED Displays, will be available in 2009 at the earliest.
