Oumuamua Could Be a Hydrogen Iceberg

On October 19, 2017, Robert Weryk discovered an unknown celestial body in a highly eccentric orbit.. In this observation he made with the PAN-STARRS 1 telescope, he detected that the object he discovered came from outside the Solar System and accepted it as a comet.. This object was the first celestial object to come from outside our Solar System.. Subsequently, research on the object increased and the object was classified as an asteroid and named “Oumuamua”.. Although Oumuamua is classified as an asteroid, work has continued to unravel what exactly it is.

One of the teams that carried out these studies was the team of Yale University and the University of Chicago.. A paper published by the team was recently accepted by The Astrophysical Journal Letters, an academic journal in the astronomical field.. You can find the article on the arXiv page.

Yale University Professor of Astronomy, Gregory Laughlin, said in a statement, “We think that ‘Oumuamua is composed of hydrogen ice.. This is a new type of object, but apparently there’s more to it than that.” we don’t usually see it in solid form. Extremely cold weather conditions are required for this. Such temperatures are found in the coldest depths of giant molecular clouds.”

The modeling study shows that there may be a large amount of hydrogen in the core of Oumuamua.. As Oumuamua approaches the sun, the hydrogen on it melts due to the heat and accelerates it, while the melting hydrogens give Oumuamua its strange shape.. It’s like shaping a bar of soap after soaking it in water.

If Seligman and Laughlin are right, there are a lot of such “hydrogen comets”, and exploring them could allow us to explore the depths of space.

There Are Those Who Think Spacecraft

In 2017, when our first interstellar visitor, ‘Oumuamua, entered our Solar System, it’s unclear exactly what happened. There were some who argued that it was a comet or an asteroid, but some argued that Oumuamua was a spaceship because of its interesting shape.. Some have even described it as a small part of a whole.

Oumuamua is approximately 900 meters long and is estimated to have traveled for millions of years before entering our solar system.. It currently orbits Saturn and will travel for another 10,000 years before exiting our Solar System.

The name ‘Oumuamua, strange as it may sound to us, means “visitor from afar and first reaching the ground” in the language of the Hawaiians who discovered it.
