Standard air filters attached to the engine may not work for you. It is an easy and inexpensive process to do.. The logic of the event is to ensure that the engine can get fresh air more easily.. The colder the air entering the engine, the stronger the combustion.. This is one of the functions of the air filter.. In other words, it is to provide cold and clean air flow for the engine.. As you know, the only resistance between the engine and the atmosphere is the air filter.. If the air filter used is of poor quality, it can transmit the hot air formed under the hood to the engine or it can reach the engine without filtering the dusty air coming from the outside.. For this reason, we can say that the air filter is vital.
There are three types of air filters in the market.
1) Open air filter
2) In-box filter
1)
3) Bolt-On Open Filter
The purpose of all these filters is the same. In other words, to transmit the air to the engine in the best way, but the open air filter gives your vehicle a sporty sound, 5% performance and half a liter of fuel saving, on the other hand, its maintenance and application is more difficult.. Because if the maintenance is not done regularly, it can transmit the hot air under the hood to the engine and cause performance loss.. To prevent this, open filters are usually mounted away from the engine compartment or, as with the Subaru Impreza, a hood opens to allow air intake from the outside.. On the other hand, the in-box filter is easy to maintain and apply, but its effect is not much more than standard air filters.. Bolt-on open air filter is not preferred because of its high cost.. The best quality air filters are the air filters produced by HKS and K&N companies.
One thing should be underlined about the air filter, which is the thought that it is not reasonable to apply a non-standard air filter to a vehicle whose performance has not been improved by modifying it.. According to this completely wrong idea, if an air filter is installed on the vehicle, there will be an imbalance in the air and fuel mixture entering the engine.. In other words, if 15 units of air and 1 unit of fuel enter the engine under normal conditions, it is thought that the amount of air will increase with the air filter and cause an imbalance in the engine.. But the forgotten point here is the ECU device.. As you know, ECU is the software that adjusts the engine according to all weather conditions, pressure changes and load conditions.. As a result, how much fuel and how much air the engine will take is determined by the ECU.. For this reason, when the air filter is changed, the amount of air the engine will take does not increase, only the quality of the air changes.. The performance gained by a quality air filter is 5-12 HP on average.. Here, the exhaust comes into play.. As you know very well, exhaust is effective in evacuating fuel gases and it is very important to get these gases out easily for a good performance, but the mufflered exhausts used in passenger cars create a resistance during the expulsion of air.. As a result, performance loss occurs.. For this reason, exhausts known as sports exhausts have been developed.. The difference of these from the standards is that they transmit both the sound and the gases to the outside without cutting the engine sound reflected in the exhaust.. The performance gained by a quality exhaust is between 3 and 8 HP.
