It’s easy to turn iPhones and Androids into WiFi hotspots. It just got a whole lot simpler these days, thanks to both Apple and Google adding WiFi hotspot support to their operating systems.. Knowing how to use this great feature brings iPhone and Android users together. Cellular data must be turned on to enable Wi-Fi hotspot. Wi-Fi hotspot sharing is required for sharing cellular data. You cannot share the Wi-fi network you are connected to.
iPhone
Click “Settings -> Cellular” and turn it on. Then tap the “Personal Hotspot” menu in Cellular and turn it on from the top. If personal WiFi or Bluetooth is turned off, you will be prompted to turn it back on. Prefer Wi-fi, not Bluetooth. You can change the password with the Wi-Fi password option.
Your phone can now be used as a modem.. Other devices will see your device as a modem to connect to the Internet from the Wi-Fi network.. On the network the modem name will be the name of your phone. When you search for a wireless network from another device, select the network with the name of your phone and connect to the Internet by entering the password you created.
Android
Settings may vary depending on the Android version you are using.. If it’s a relatively recent Android version (5.0 and later), the same general rules apply between phones. The procedure I did below was based on Android 6.0 version.
Under Settings > Networks’ “Create Internet Sharing“‘ from here ‘ Wi-Fi Enable hotspot. After or before doing this, you can still make the necessary settings in the “Wi-Fi hotspot” section to specify your network name, password and even timeout.. To activate the Wi-Fi hot-spot, you can quickly activate the Wi-Fi hot-spot by swiping down on the quick menu from the top of your phone and clicking the icon that says “Access Point” under the white background of the Wi-Fi icon.
Warning
Hotspots connect your computers, tablets, other phones, etc. to take advantage of your iPhone’s or Android’s Internet.. It’s a great way to connect. But be careful, because when your other devices are connected to Wi-Fi (especially Windows 10), it will automatically download updates and quickly destroy your data quota. You need to make sure that automatic app updates are turned off on other devices that connect to your phone for the Internet.. Keep in mind that the device you are doing hotspot operation may run out of charge quickly.
