The eye-shaped camera designed by American scientists uses standard sensor materials and will reportedly improve the performance of digital cameras. They also expect the device to play an important role in the development of prosthetics such as the bionic eye in the future.
Yonggang Huang of Northwestern University in Evanston; “This is the first time we’ve tried a camera on a curved surface to make it look like a human eye,” said Huang and his collaborator on the project, John Rogers; came up with a solution to transfer microelectric components to a curved surface without breaking it. Huang; “If you bend them, these materials can become brittle like a ceramic pot,” he said. Hang and Rogers to solve this problem; they have developed a material made of tiny squares and interlocking. This material holds the sensors and electronic components. Every bit of the square is connected by tiny wires. In this way, each component can be bent according to a curved surface.
