Exchange Server 2007 Restore

Hello;

How to recover when a Mailbox Server Role crashes or is damaged; depends on the type of error occurring. If we are using LCR or CCR in our build then we may not be restoring the backup. If we need to restore a backup we have, we can put it in the Recovery storage Group.

To list the restore states;

Mails: Users; want to recover messages in their mailboxes. Most of the time we can do this for Outlook. But we can do it within 14 days. To recover items that are 14 days ;Deleted Items (Deleted Items) are selected and Recover Deleted from Tools > Click on Items. In the window that opens, select the message you want to recover and click the Recover Selected Items icon.. If you want to change this 14-day period; Right click on Exchange Management Console > Server Configuration > Mailbox Database and enter Properties .

Limits It is set with Keep deleted items for (days) on the tab.

Mailbox:

A deleted mailbox can be restored within 30 days Recoverable from Exchange Management Console. But after 30 days this mailbox is permanently deleted. Again, this period can be extended by changing the keep deleted mailbox value in the Limits tab above.

Database:

If the database does not respond due to any problem in our server or if the database is in the disabled state; we can replace it with LCR or CCR. Or we can restore from a backup we have.

Storage Group:

If the problem with our server Storage Group if this is due to its structure; It can be done by restoring Transaction Logs, or alternatively by LCR or CCR

Mailbox Server:

It can be recovered with CCR or SCC depending on the failure condition.

Non-Mailbox Server:

Only these cannot be recovered in LCR, CCR and SCC structures. However, some settings can be backed up and restored.

External Services:

Active Directory and Certificate Services Artifacts affecting Exchange Server 2007 may need to be restored, such as There are techniques. These are;

Database and Storage Group Restore:

By restoring the existing database copy; Copied on database or storage group. Can be used when the database is unreadable or crashes. After restoring Database , we can reconstruct active Transaction Log.

This type of restore methods; Affects all mailbox in database . Therefore, this build is not suitable for recovering a mailbox or a deleted object.. Because when we configure Transaction Log, they will be deleted again.

Recovery Storage Group:

Backup can be made without allowing active mailbox to be added. is a special form of recovery. After the database is restored into the recovery storage group, we can copy the messages into a folder or associate them with the user mailbox.

This kind of backup operations; for a single mailbox, preventing other users from being affected; can perform mailbox content recovery.

Dial-Tone Recovery:

Data; Allows the user to access mail services without backup their mailbox. The purpose of this; Sending and receiving mails as quickly as possible after database or server is lost. Users will still be able to send and receive mails, but they will not be able to access past mailbox data.

Recovery Server:

To recover Exchange Server databases is a dedicated server. This server is completely built on a server other than Forest.. When installing Recovery Server, it is configured as the original server.. Only this situation; Organization Name is based on Storage Group name and Logical Database Name. Of course, besides these, the LegacyExchangeDN property must be the same.. After making a backup on a database recovery server; We can connect to mailboxes on the recovery server.

Reducing Restore Requirements:

Users; They can recover emails they have deleted in 14 in Outlook . Of course, it is up to us to increase it.. If we increase this there will be advantages to users but also disadvantages to us. Because to increase this history; causes more mail to accumulate on the disk. But if the user deletes mails with shift+delete, he/she cannot recover mails. For deleted mailboxs, the existing 30-day period can be increased to allow them to be reused.. However, if the -Permanent option is used with the True setting in the Remove-Mailbox command from the Exchange Command Shell, unfortunately, its back use is not possible. 🙂
